Mary Theresa Beary was born on June 11, 1906, in Rye, New York. Her father Daniel was 36, and her mother Sophia was 29. Her family lived at 75 Purchase Street in Rye and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

Beary was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1925. She graduated from Beaver College for Women and earned a Masters Degree from New York University. 

On November 10, 1942, at the age of 35, Beary enlisted in the Army to serve in World War II. She served in the Army from 1942 to 1955, attaining the rank of Major. She belonged to American Legion Post #128 in Rye.

In 1950, she married Lt. Col. Wayne Allphin in Germany. Beary was a lifelong resident of Rye. She worked as a School Teacher for White Plains Public Schools for twelve years before retiring.

Mary Beary Allphin died December 26, 2001 at United Hospital in Port Chester. She was a lifelong Rye resident prior to her passing. More on Beary.
