It was a mismatch at Nugent Stadium on Friday night, as the #1 Garnets remained perfect with a comfortable 34-14 win over the Brewster Bears in their Section 1 Class A quarterfinal matchup. The Garnets took a 20-0 lead into halftime, stretched it to 34-0, and easily hung on to advance to the semi-finals next weekend.

“It was a great performance by our offensive line,” Head Coach Dino Garr told MyRye.com after the game. “The defense played outstanding again. We shut them down really well.”

Not only did the Garnets D hold the Bears to zero points for much of the night, they also scored some of their own on a pick six from Jake Kessner. That score made it 34-0 Rye. Before that, Chris Iuliano scored three rushing touchdowns and Ty Ramachandran caught one from Carson Miller to account for the rest of Rye’s points. The Garnets rested starters for more than half of the second half.

With the win, the #1 Garnets are still undefeated in 2024 – and undefeated since Week 4 of 2023. They will look to keep the good times rolling in a semi-final matchup against Yorktown on either Friday, November 8 or Saturday, November 9. It’s the second meeting of the season between these two schools, and Yorktown played the Garnets tough in their first matchup. However, Rye will have home field advantage this time around – their final game at Nugent Stadium in 2024.

“If you have to play somebody twice, it’s good to have the second one be on your turf,” Garr said of the matchup.
