The #1 Rye Girls Lacrosse team breezed past #8 Henry Hudson in the Class C quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 28, defeating the Sailors 20-6 and advancing to the semifinals. Once Rye took a 3-2 lead with 3:46 to play in the first quarter, they never looked back, pulling away with eleven goals in the second quarter.

“The Garnets dominated throughout the field in the quarterfinals against Hen Hud,” Head Coach Michelle Mason told MyRye.com after the win. “Our defensive unit continued to show their cohesion and potential to limit opportunities for opponents.”

The defense only allowed one Hen Hud goal in the entire second half after letting the Sailors hang around briefly in the early stages. Katherine Ebeling only had to make one save, which was the 250th of her illustrious varsity career.

On the other end, Mary Sack stood out for all the right seasons, with a hat trick, five assists, and ten draw controls. Rye slowed their attack down in the second half with such a large lead, the only reason she did not score a double-double (points-DCs). Behind the senior, eight other Garnets found their way onto the scoresheet, with most of the damage coming in the second quarter.

#1 Rye (13-4) will host Somers in the semifinals on Saturday, May 31, at Nugent Stadium. The start time is unconfirmed but expected to be 1:00pm. Watch it here. Watch the quarterfinal victory over Hen Hud here.
