The Rye Basketball team earned a hard-fought victory in their first home game of the 2026 season on Tuesday, January 6, as they silenced New Rochelle to the tune of a 50-41 final score. The Garnets graced the RHS Gymnasium in their game apparel for the first time since last season, and did not let the fans down against the AAA Huguenots.

“I was very happy with our first half effort, especially defensively – it always starts on defense, which usually creates good scoring opportunities on offense,” Head Coach Tommy Proudian told MyRye.com after the victory. “When we played the right way, we played really well, which is promising.”

Although Proudian later admitted the Garnets did not play a perfect game, especially with the ball in their hands, they did enough to come away with a win in the home opener after a 3-2 start to the season on the road. Despite being outscored 25-17 in the second half, the Garnets had built a wide enough lead after 16 minutes of play to win by nine.

47 of Rye’s 50 points came from four players – Carson Miller led the way with 21, followed by Ben Hudson (12 points), Henry Shoemaker (7 points), and Luke Scully (7 points). New Rochelle had only two players score in the double figures, both of whom ended with exactly ten points apiece.

“We’ll learn from our mistakes and continue to improve,” Proudian told MyRye.com. “Overall, very happy with the win, especially vs an AAA team and much larger school than Rye.”

Rye (4-2) hosts Byram Hills for their first of four straight Friday night contests at the Rye High School gym. The game begins at 7:00pm. Fans planning to attend are encouraged to wear black. Those who cannot make it can watch a livestream here. Replay the win over New Rochelle here.
