The Rye Boys Basketball team stayed perfect in league play on Monday, January 9, going on the road to Clarkstown South and winning 54-50. With the close victory, the Garnets improve to 6-0 in league play and have locked up a regular season league title.
“Great road victory against a well-coached and tough Clarkstown South team,” Head Coach Tommy Proudian told MyRye.com after the game. “A difficult environment to play in but another good sign as it will only help us come playoff time.”
The Garnets hung around in the first half despite struggling in the second quarter. The Vikings never led Rye by more than three points throughout the entire night. The Garnets’ largest lead was 54-48 in the dying seconds.
Ben Hudson and Carson Miller both led Rye with 16 points apiece, while Sebastian Lewis also reached double figures with 10 points, plus a few key steals and rebounds. Henry Shoemaker only scored seven but Proudian called him a “beast on the boards again.”
Rye (14-4, 6-0) has won five straight games heading into their final two contests of the season. The first of those is tomorrow, Wednesday 2/11, at 6:30pm. The Garnets take on the other Clarkstown, Clarkstown North, once again on the road. Watch it here. Replay the league-clinching victory here.
