Harry Lowe was born May 2, 1921 in England. Both his father John W. and his mother Mary were also born in England in 1898. Harry’s father was a landscape gardener and the family lived at 148 Osborn Road.
Harry married Thelma Losito on October 4, 1942, in Harrison, New York. They had one child during their marriage. He died as a young father in 1943 at the age of 21, and was buried in Biddulph, Staffordshire, England. Harry enlisted and served in the Royal Canadian Airforce during World War II.
Harry Lowe Royal Air Force, 49th Sqaudron Harry was an American citizen who participated in the British Commonwealth air training plan. Harry held the rank of Pilot Officer and served as a bombadier in the Royal Canadian Airforce.
In England he was attached to the 49th Sqaudron, Royal Air Force Bomber Command. On November 27, 1943, Harrys plane, an Avro Lancaster MK lll JB235 , was returning from a bombing raid on Berlin. His plane crashed on landing and burst into flames at Royal Air Force Station, Fiskerton, Lincolnshire.
Pilot Harry Lowe Lost in Action
Mr. and Mrs. John W. Lowe, of 148 Osborne Road, were notified this week by the Canadian Government, of the Death of their son, Pilot Officer Harry Lowe, 21, of the RCAF. The message received read, The Canadian Government deeply regrets to inform you that your son, Pilot Officer Harry Lowe was killed in active service overseas on November 27.
The young officer was the husband of the former Gloria Losito, now residing with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Losito,192 Nelson Avenue, Harrison, and was the father of a three-months old daughter. According to a letter received by his parents a few days ago, he was still stationed in England and was in good health and already had been on 50 missions over enemy countries.
They believed he was killed in one of the bombings of Germany. The young flier was graduated from Harrison High School and attended Columbia University for two years before his enlistment in the RCAF in August 1942.
