The Rye Volleyball team reached the semifinal round of their annual tournament-style jamboree at Yorktown High School last weekend, where they lost to Lakeland 18-25. The Garnets went 4-5 in total in their nine miniature one-set games in a fun show of volleyball.
“It was a successful day for us as we continue to navigate figuring out who we are as a unit,” head coach Geri Jones told MyRye.com. “We moved people around to different positions and many seemed to find out where they were most comfortable and where the challenges were. That is the benefit of tournament days.”
Each game in the tournament was essentially one set of a standard game, with both teams racing to 25 points. Rye joined the host Yorktown, Lakeland, Mahopac, Westlake, Ardsley, Putnam Valley, and Our Lady of Lourdes in the jamboree. The Garnets went 3-4 through the round robin portion before defeating Mahopac in the quarterfinals. They fell 18-25 in the semis, as Lakeland advanced to the final round.
Star setter Amelie Modesto was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts across all nine sets.
Rye’s record remains at 3-2 ahead of their next match on Tuesday, September 22. The Garnets travel to Nanuet for a 4:30pm start in a busy day across Rye athletics.
