The 7th-ranked Rye Field Hockey team advanced to the sectional quarterfinals on Saturday, October 24, as they emphatically defeated #10 Brewster 7-1. The Garnets likely hosted their final home game of the season and did not disappoint to get back to the Class B quarterfinals.

Izzy Thomas opened up scoring about halfway through the first quarter after she converted a broken play. That kickstarted a parade of goals for the Garnets, including a hat trick for Liv Prata and the first varsity tally for Emma LaMonte.

“After that first goal we didn’t look back,” head coach Valerie Montano told MyRye.com. “Robyn Wilmot and Cate Puzzuoli did a really great job executing on our corners. That’s something we’ve been working on, so I am really proud of how they set us up to score.”

Puzzuoli and Wilmot both scored two points with a combined one goal and three assists. In total, eight Garnets reached the scoresheet, including Kaitlyn Coyne, Heidi Kloepfer, and Amelia Buckley. Rye fired 33 shots at Brewster goalie Haley Jaconetti.

#7 Rye (8-6-1, 1-0 postseason) face either #2 John Jay-Cross River or #15 Fox Lane in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 27. The Garnets have not faced Fox Lane this year and lost 2-1 to JJCR back in the third contest of the season.
