The City of Rye Fire department welcomed its newest firefighter in a ceremony Monday morning at City Hall. Andre Wolfe was sworn in by Deputy City Clerk Kayla Garritano. The position opened last fall after 25-year department veteran John Thompson was sworn in as the department’s newest Lieutenant.

“Andre was chosen because of his training, his skills and he was the best candidate we had,” said Public Safety Commissioner Mike Kopy.

Wolfe was born and raised in Binghamton, New York where he graduated from Binghamton High School in 2007, and then attended Broome Community College. After graduating from the fire academy at the top of the class in 2021, Wolfe has been a professional firefighter and EMT for two years with the Binghamton Fire Department.

“Everyone has been so welcoming so far,” said Wolfe. “I can’t wait to start my journey with you guys.”

Rye’s newest firefighter enjoys helping his community through activities such as Meals on Wheels, coaching various youth sports teams, and being a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. According to the FD, Wolfe’s interests include mentoring, listening to podcasts, and watching or playing sports.
