Family, friends, and faculty gathered at Nugent Stadium Friday evening to celebrate the ninety-second annual Rye High School graduation. Everyone’s prayers were answered Friday, as the rainy conditions cleared up just in time for the ceremonies.
Each of the 240 graduates was celebrated in front of a packed Nugent Stadium. RCSD Superintendent of Schools Eric Byrne, Rye High School Principal Suzanne Short, and President of the Board of Education Jane Anderson all offered their wisdom and best wishes to the accomplished graduates. Valedictorian Cassidy Pagen and Salutatorian Charlotte Langer each addressed the Class of 2023, as well.
“As you head off into the world to create your path in life, discover your passions and make your mark,” Byrne said. “Know that your families, teachers, and all of the Rye City School District staff will always be here cheering you on.”
“Saying goodbye to something you love is really hard,” Langer said. “But we feel this way because of the incredible moments that we’ve all had and all the people that have helped to make those moments happen.”
Other graduates in the spotlight included Ayden Hufford, who spoke to the class about its years together, and Cassandra Brook, Oliver Meier, Alessia Pedrazzoli, and Lucas White, who delivered a Latin Oration.
There were also two musical acts: Eleanor Collins, Alison Hudson, Benjamin Laschever, Sean Mealey, Mari Moerschen, Mark O’Brien, and Hadley Simmons performed Adele’s When We Were Young; Henry Field, Thomas Keller, and Mari Moerschen performed Gavin DeGraw’s Not Over You.
