A group of seven artists that live in Rye’s Greenhaven area are planning an open studio day on Sunday, April 28th. The group has invited other artists in the area and will run a showcase in four private homes.
The event will feature 19 artists including painters, sculptors, a floral designer, photographers, mixed media artists, a yoga teacher and a writer. At each location, in addition to the art viewable on site, they will curate special events to take place at scheduled times throughout the day. The artwork will be on sale.
“We are thrilled to invite the community to join us for this special event,” says Cécile Roberfroid, one of the founding members of Greenhaven Artists. “Our collective is deeply committed to fostering a supportive environment for female entrepreneurs in the arts, and this Open Studio event is a testament to our shared vision and dedication.”

The Artists
Greenhaven Artists is a collective of seven creative individuals based in or around the Greenhaven neighborhood of Rye:
- Anike Wariebi is a British-Nigerian author and memoirist who’s currently seeking literary representation and publication for her debut novel, “Oduduwa Crescent”. In addition to a master’s in creative writing from Oxford University she has a degree in Economics and Business Administration and has worked in corporate marketing for over twenty-five years. - Intuitive abstract oil painter Cécile Roberfroid conveys her belief in the transformative power of art in each creation. Through her expressive paintings, she shares her innermost feelings, encouraging viewers to forge a meaningful connection and experience their own emotions. See the work.
- Sandra Doherty of Aroma Flowers creates unique, romantic, garden-style floral arrangements for weddings and special events. Each arrangement is made with fresh flowers from a wholesaler or from her own organic garden. She only uses sustainable materials, so her creations are as eco-friendly as they are beautiful. - Figurative painter Fleur Spolidor’s artwork is about complicated subject matters like Women’s rights and climate change. Her work is intensively researched and painted in colorful acrylics over collages of recycled materials. See the work.
- Belkis Hull is an established family and wedding photographer with a passion for travel photography. She’s also a fervent advocate of building community and women empowerment in her beautiful town of Rye, NY. See the work.
- Hélène Roy is a French-born yoga teacher trained in Ashtanga and Vinyasa Yoga. A regular teacher at Kaia Yoga in Mamaroneck, she offers private instruction at her home studio in Greenhaven and hosts yoga retreats in the Catskills and France. See the work.
- Watercolor painter Anik McGrory focuses substantively on painting from life and on subjects in the natural world. Her background as a children’s book writer and illustrator brings along a strong foundation in drawing and composition, and frequently a narrative tone to her paintings. She has had increasing success with many regional and national painting organizations.
The other artists invited to participate in the open studio event:
- Fine art, abstract photographer Terry Frishman specializes in Pareidolia — finding meaningful images in random, often-unseen textures like one might discover in cloud formations or Rorschach tests — capturing what we often overlook while inviting viewers to question what they see. See the work.
- Zahra Jlayer is a physician pathologist residing in New Rochelle. Working with a microscope and looking at the human body at cellular level became her inspiration for the world of “abstract art”. She works with fluid acrylic to create abstract paintings through which she explores the beauty and complexity of vibrant colors which allow her to transmit positive energy to the spectators. - Gaelle Hintzy-Marcel creates sensitive and organic sculptures to share her life’s insights. She believes in the power of personal transformation and challenges routines and patterns through her art. Exploring the connection between body and mind, she experiments with materials, forging unique techniques to express her journey of self-discovery.
- Vildan Starr is a visual artist who creates intuitive landscapes. Her work is characterized by a bold and expressive approach, allowing her to capture the essence of nature through abstraction or dynamic geometric designs. See the work.
- Cross-disciplinary artist Suzanne Sumien enjoys experimenting with colors or mashing up different mediums with found objects. She also utilizes sound clips and old black and white photographs, her imagination always entertained by the endless permutations of her mediums.
- Anne de Villemejane is an established French-American artist and sculptor living in New York City. Her captivating work explores the nuances of femininity and womanhood, utilizing textural materials like cement, acrylic, bronze or glass. See the work.
- It was while reading a novel about the city of Manhattan by Antonio Munoz Molina “Windows of Manhattan” and while riding a bicycle that Angelique Bizet discovered the gigantism of the City and found inspiration to create street-inspired ceramic pieces. She also loves animals and enjoys creating animal related objects.
- Nadine Frenette is a long time resident of NYC but is originally from the eastern part of France. She works as a real estate agent but has recently given in to her more creative side. Nadine recycles the cork she has accumulated or been gifted over the years to create abstract and vibrant pieces.
- Artist Elissa Carroll creates oil paintings that are inspired by color and luminosity. Light changes a subject in an instant and she enjoys the challenge of capturing that moment of change and portraying how she sees the world. See the work.
- Abstract artist Monique Robidoux loves creating art that speaks to people. She’s working in a variety of media and substrates, seeking to create luminosity and depth in her work. Nature always informs her work on some level and interesting juxtapositions of color drives it. See the work.
- Mixed media abstract painter Wendy Gemelle enjoys playing with multiple textures and colors using acrylic paints on top of photo collages on wood or canvases to create vibrant geometric spaces. She loves being near any body of water and being inspired by it, thinking that perhaps being a Pisces influences her art.
- Marie Seguret is a French artist based in Westchester. Mainly sculptor and painter, she has been in the arts world for as long as she can remember. She is drawn to bright colors and to light in nature. She has exhibited in Paris, NYC and Jersey City. See the work.
