A car fire at the BP gas station on the Boston Post Road on Thursday evening, May 1, 2025, prompted response from the Rye Fire Department in addition to mutual aid from adjacent communities. The gas station is on the Rye – Mamaroneck line by the Hornidge Road entrance to Rye Neck High School.
At approximately 7:15pm, Rye FD was dispatched to BP for a reported motor vehicle fire. Upon arrival, crews encountered a Chevrolet SUV with a fully involved engine compartment fire located next to the structure. A hose line was stretched, and due to the vehicle’s close proximity to the building, the nature of the call was upgraded. Additional resources were requested from the Rye Brook and Larchmont Fire Departments as a precaution.
The fire was quickly extinguished and successfully contained to the compartment of origin. Crews checked the building for any fire extension and confirmed there was none. Mutual-aid companies were subsequently returned. Rye PD was on scene and assisted as needed. Fire units ensured that the business owner was fully informed before returning to service at approximately 8:07pm.
