Rye has a new Public Safety Commissioner.

In a memo to city staff on Wednesday, City Manager Greg Usry announced Mike Kopy as the new public safety commissioner, effective immediately. The role oversees both the police and fire departments. Mike Anfuso has been serving as acting public safety commissioner since August when Rob Falk retired.

Kopy has served with the New York State Police, rising to the rank of Major-Troop Commander, as well as head of Internal Affairs. Most recently he served as Director of the Governor Cuomo’s Office of Emergency Management with responsibility for all emergency operations in New York State. Mike is an active Village of Mamaroneck Volunteer Firefighter and served as Fire Chief.
