Boys Varsity Soccer Puts Eastchester in the Hutch
Rye Boys Varsity Soccer put Eastchester in the hutch on Wednesday, sending troublesome traffic to the Eagles during the away game for a 3-0 win.
“This was a really complete effort from the entire squad,” said Rye Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Jared Small. “Our players did a really nice job controlling the tempo and style, and we showed a nice blend of creativity and pragmatism throughout. I liked that we saw a lot of the ball, and loved that we won a lot of 50/50s and balls in the air–particularly in the back third.”
Tommy Broderick broke free and made a great run into the box, only to be denied by the opposing goalkeeper. Moments later, he was fouled in the box and a penalty was awarded. Jonas van Beurden finished converted the penalty for his 5th goal of the season and the Garnets took a 1-0 lead to halftime.
In the 50th minute, Stijn Terlouw made a series of individual moves before serving a dangerous cross into the box. Henry Field used a nifty back flick to convert the cross for a highlight reel goal and a 2-0 lead. Kieran Traynor converted a loose ball in the final moments of the match for his first varsity goal.
Kyan Cox made three saves to earn the clean sheet, and center back Charlie O’Rorke was influential in winning nearly every set piece header in the box. Max van der Voort and Jack Childs put in particularly strong shifts in the center of the park.
The season shifts to 7-3. The Garnets host Harrison on Friday at 6pm (watch it).
