The Rye Girls Rugby team concluded the 2025 season with two losses on Thursday, May 22, falling to New Rochelle in game one and Horace Mann in game two. The Garnets were outscored 83-5 across the 28 minutes of game time in a disappointing finish to what had the makings of a promising spring.

In the first game, Rye lost to New Rochelle 22-5. Molly Kennedy capped her strong season with a try. She led the team in scoring by a significant margin all the way throughout. Head Coach Geri Jones called the game one loss a “tough game” for her squad.

The second game was an unraveling for Rye, as Horace Mann won 61-0. “We don’t know if it was the weather, or the loss to New Rochelle for the first game, but we could not find our footing,” Jones told MyRye.com. “It was a disappointing way to end the season.”

Rye caps the 2025 campaign at 6-6, a step down from their 9-3 season a year ago. They were on the wrong side of several walk-off losses which hurt their momentum. Kennedy wraps up her fourth and final year with remarkable numbers, scoring in every game except the final one and finding great success in the kicking game as well. Additionally, Sofia Jovanovic became a nice story down the stretch with three tries in her final four games. Rye will turn their focus to 2026, where they will have to fill Kennedy’s production, as the graduating senior heads to West Point to continue her rugby career.
