Frank E. Bixby Jr., born on April 25, 1920, resided at 33 Oakwood Avenue in Rye, New York. His father, Frank E. Bixby, mother Mildred B. Bixby, and younger sister Jeanne E. Bixby lived with him in their family-owned home. The property’s value at the time was approximately $8,500. Both his father and mother were born in Pennsylvania and New York, respectively, just like their children.

During his time at Rye High School, Frank Bixby demonstrated both academic excellence and athletic success. He was part of the National Honor Society, served as the Captain of the Rye Track and Field Program for four years, and held the position of treasurer in the Rye High School Band. Additionally, he was the representative for his home room as the President.
Upon graduating from high school in 1938, Frank pursued his undergraduate studies and obtained his degree from Dartmouth College in 1942. After, he enrolled in Cornell Medical School, where he achieved the highest score nationwide on the National Board Exams in Anatomy and was honored with the Samuels Prize in Ophthalmology upon graduation. Dr. Bixby underwent surgical training at Bellevue Hospital, New York Hospital, and Children’s Hospital in Boston. He also served as a physician in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
In 1951, Dr. Bixby commenced his formal surgical practice at Beverly Hospital, where he remained until his retirement in 1987. He established Beverly Surgical Associates and served as a member of the board of trustees at Beverly Hospital from 1987 to 1993. Dr. Bixby held prominent positions within the medical field, including past presidency of the Massachusetts Medical Society, fellowship and governance within the American College of Surgeons, and former presidency of the Massachusetts chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
At the time of his passing, Dr. Bixby was survived by his wife, Bertha (Benson), and four daughters: Judith of Newburyport, Barbara of Long Island, Nancy Linsley of Topsfield, and Pamela Coolidge of Ipswich. He also had four grandchildren. Born in Port Chester, New York, he resided in Wenham, Massachusetts, for 37 years before his passing at the age of 74.
