The Rye Girls Lacrosse team concluded their regular season with an 11-7 win over Suffern on Friday, May 16, completing a perfect league slate. The Garnets had already clinched first place, but now lock up an undefeated 5-0 league record and are primed for the postseason.
“The Garnets played a very gritty game last night at Suffern and held onto the win in our final regular season game,” Head Coach Michelle Mason told MyRye.com on Saturday. “Katherine Ebeling came out huge in the 2nd quarter and shifted momentum for the Garnets after some big saves.”
Rye did not play a perfect game, leading 4-3 after 12 minutes, but Ebeling’s goaltending helped turn the tides and allow the Garnets to stay ahead of the Mounties by multiple goals the rest of the way. A substantial part of the offense was RHS Athlete of the Month for May, Mary Sack: the senior recorded a multi-goal game, including her 100th career tally off a free position attack from the 8M arc in the final seconds before halftime. After the clutch milestone goal, Rye stayed steadily in control and never trailed in the second half. They turned a 4-3 lead into a 9-4 advantage in the middle two quarters.
The Garnets (12-4, 5-0) get set for the postseason, which begins at some time next week. Watch the victory over Suffern here.
