A handgun was displayed as part of an alleged road rage incident on Thursday at the Boston Post Road entrance to the Rye Golf Club. The location is a popular destination for Rye and local families to golf, swim and to dine at Whitby Castle.
Rye PD responded to the road rage report around 12:00pm Thursday. The victim stated the party stopped his vehicle in front of the victim’s vehicle. The victim honked his horn at the unknown male, and the male pointed what appeared to be a black handgun at him. The victim took note of the party’s license plate and called 911.
Officers stopped the vehicle on the Boston Post Road in the vicinity of Peck Ave and detained the male identified as 63 year old John Chin of Yonkers. No handgun was recovered from Chin’s vehicle but officers walked the route taken by Chin and recovered a black Daisy Powerline Pellet gun just off the sidewalk of the Boston Post Road at the intersection of Sonn Drive.
Chin was transported to Rye Police Headquarters for processing where he was charged with one count of Menacing 2nd degree (class “A” misdemeanor). He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Rye City Court on Tuesday July 8, 2025 at 9:00am.
