It is with deep sadness that the family of William (Bill) Hull Ferris announces his passing at the age of 87. Bill lived a life devoted to service, compassion, and faith. Bill was born and raised in Rye, New York, and moved to Canada as a young adult to study at Queens and Bishop’s University where he met his future wife, Judy.
In 1968, he participated in the civil rights movement, reflecting his enduring commitment to justice and human dignity. His professional journey was rooted in education and ministry—he served as a teacher-librarian at St. Andrew’s College and as an Anglican priest at several parishes, including St. Peter’s and St. Andrew’s in Quebec, and St. Simon’s, St. Richard’s, and St. Peter’s in British Columbia. Bill also provided spiritual care as a clinical pastoral worker at St. Jude’s Senior Home and as chaplain at Pearson Hospital and the Willingdon Youth Detention Centre in Vancouver.
Bill was predeceased by his wife and soulmate, Judy. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his children—Tim (Brenda), Jono (Nancy), Alexa (Blair), and Liz—and by his grandchildren—Tyler, Connor, Emma, Talia, Megan, Cameron, and Evan. The family would like to thank Langley Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
In remembrance of Bill’s unwavering faith, we reflect on the words of Luke 23:42-43: Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on June 21st at 1:00 p.m. in the Memorial Garden at Christ the Redeemer, Surrey, British Columbia.
