A 19 year old flipped his car on the Boston Post Road with six passengers inside and has been charged with DWI. The incident happened on Friday, July 4th at 3:30pm at the intersection of Bradford Avenue.

Rye PD responded to the report of a one-car rollover accident at the location. When officers arrived, they found the driver, Jamal Abdul Razak, age 19, of White Plains, and multiple passengers, ages 18-19 years old, outside the vehicle. The passengers reported only minor injuries, all were transported by EMS to the Westchester County Medical Center for treatment.
An investigation revealed that the crashed vehicle was traveling north on the Boston Post Road when according to Razak, he was attempting to avoid an animal in the roadway, struck the curb causing him to over correct and flip his vehicle. The vehicle, a 2010 Acura MDX, came to a stop on its roof in the southbound lane of the Boston Post Road.
According the Rye PD, officers said Razak displayed signs of impairment and failed the standard field sobriety testing. At Rye PD headquarters, Razak refused to submit to a chemical breath test. Razak was arrested and charged with the following: Reckless endangerment 2nd Degree – Class A misdemeanor; Driving While Intoxicated – Misdemeanor Vehicle and Traffic Law Summonses Issued; Operating in Violation of Restrictions (corrective lenses); Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test; Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent; Open Container (Alcohol) and Failing to Use Designated Lane.
Razak was processed and released with a desk appearance ticket returnable to Rye Court on July 15, 2025 at 9:00am. Rye PD reminds you that booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
