The City of Rye’s Deer Management Committee met on Thursday, November 20, 2025. The group has started to identify experts in white tail deer and assessments of ecological impacts including overall forest health.

The majority of the meeting was allocated to a presentation by Bernd Blossey, professor, natural resources and the environment at Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He discussed how he has used Quercus rubra (Northern red oak), Solidago flexicaulis (Zigzag Goldenrod) and Solidago caesia (Blue-stemmed Goldenrod) to assess the ecological impacts of the overpopulation of white tailed deer.
