The 2025 Rye City Mayoral Race is officially over, as Independent candidate Rick McCabe and GOP candidate Bill Henderson have both conceded the race to Democratic candidate Josh Nathan. Nathan held a slight edge after 6 districts reported at 10:30pm, and his lead only grew as the other eight districts reported.

Along with Nathan, Democratic City Council nominees Marion Anderson, Amy Kesavan, and James Ward have unofficially won their election and will serve on the council alongside Nathan. All three winning candidates received about 300 more votes than their three GOP running mates.

McCabe released the following statement on the evening of November 4:

“Thank you to the voters of Rye for showing up to the polls and having your voices heard. This process only works when residents stay involved.

I want to congratulate Josh Nathan and wish him success as our next mayor. I also want to thank Bill Henderson for his dedicated service to the city and our community.

Best of luck to Marion Anderson, Amy Kesavan and James Ward on winning their terms serving the city as Council members. I look forward to continuing to serve Rye in the most helpful way possible.

We can meet and overcome any challenge as a community if we approach the issues and, more importantly, treat each other with respect, optimism and fairness. Good luck to all of our volunteer leaders.”

Henderson released the following statement on November 5:

“I want to congratulate Josh Nathan for winning the Mayoral race and his entire ticket – James Ward, Amy Kesavan and Marian Anderson for winning Council seats in yesterday’s election. I and the entire Republican ticket, Robin Jovanovich, Maria Shuck
and James Fee, wish Josh and his team every success in the new term beginning on January 1. We are all counting on you. Your success will be Rye’s success.

Thanks to Rick McCabe for running, the voters who voted, and to all who were engaged in this year’s political process.

My greatest thanks to my great running mates, Robin, Maria and James. You are the very best people who care so much about our great community. We worked long and hard, had fun together and can be proud of the campaign we ran.

Thanks to Matt Thomas, our tireless campaign manager, who was an inspiration to us all, and to our terrific campaign team of Jana Seitz, John Leonard, Kate Velazquez and Patrick McGovern who all worked hard behind the scenes and gave selflessly in support of our efforts. Last, but not least, I want to thank all our “All In For Rye” supporters, particularly those who hosted events, donated time and provided financial support to our campaign. Your encouragement and support was very much appreciated.

The Rye voters have chosen, the election is over, and it’s time to move on. My term ends on December 31. The City Council has next year’s budget to work on, and so I’ll be busy with that until then.

Best to everyone!
Bill Henderson”
