Athlete of the Month is a series where MyRye.com profiles the best athletes of each month throughout the academic year, as selected by Rye Athletics. Today, we look at senior Lex Cox of the Rye Boys Soccer team, who earned Rye High School’s Athlete of the Month honors for October 2025.

“Lex is a special player with so many tools in his box,” Head Coach Jared Small told MyRye.com. “He attacks with speed, is confident in tight spaces, strikes a clean ball with his left foot, and has excellent athleticism that enables him to win aerial duels.”

Cox has seven goals and 11 assists on the season as Rye’s starting left back and primary penalty kick taker. A 4-year varsity letter winner and two-time sectional champion, Cox is even more valuable on the defensive side of the ball despite his strong offensive numbers. He is also a key leader for the Garnets, leading by example day in and day out for his 16-1-3 club.

“He takes care of his body very well, and his attention to detail with his pre-match routines sets an example for his teammates,” Small said of his senior back. “His teammates have great confidence in him, and he is one of the most highly regarded players in Section 1 because of his obvious talents.”

Cox and the Garnets are still playing as the calendar flips to November, as they are one of the 16 teams still in play for the New York State championship. Their next match is this Wednesday, November 5. Once the season concludes, either with a state championship or a loss, Cox will begin to look forward to continuing his athletic and academic career at the University of Chicago as a part of their class of 2030.
