The Rye Boys Basketball team extended their impressive run of play with another large victory on Wednesday, January 28, as they smothered John Jay-Cross River’s offense in a 55-24 win. The Garnets’ offense began to find a rhythm after a sluggish start, but the Wolves’ did not, and so Rye ran away with their ninth win of the season.

“Very happy to get another section win, our eighth in the last nine games,” Head Coach Tommy Proudian told MyRye.com. “Getting contributions from multiple players is always a positive, and should bode well for the future.”

Rye played with two starters out on Wednesday, which could explain the low-scoring first quarter (the Garnets led just 12-5), but their shooting improved throughout the game. Carson Miller led all scorers with 13 points, trailed by Henry Shoemaker (11) and 9 points off the bench from Gavin McKiernan. The depth of the roster has been crucial during Rye’s 8-1 stretch, with Proudian still able to run a full rotation despite key absences.

“I am pleased with the production I am getting from Luke Scullly and Milo Shirakawa, who have stepped into the starting lineup in place of Sebastion Lewis and Luke Denvir,” the head coach explained. “Additionally, I am very satisfied with the play of Sam Scully, Ryan Hess, Cal Wing, and Gavin McKiernan off the bench in the last two victories.”

After a 1-2 start, Rye has crawled back to a 9-3 record through twelve games, good for a .750 win percentage. Their first chance at win number ten is on Friday, January 30, as the Garnets host two-time defending Section B champion Woodlands High School at the Cube at 7:00pm. Watch it here.
