The Rye Boys Squash team earned a convincing victory in their final match of the 2026 season on Saturday, February 21, defeating Darien 6-1 at Nationals. The Garnets entered the tournament in Division III on Friday, and their win over Darien ended up being their final match of the year after inclement weather cancelled all action on Sunday.

“The entire team competed all season long with tenacity, determination and displayed positive sportsmanship and respect for their opponents,” Head Coach Quan Huynh told MyRye.com. “The boys were led this season by senior captain, Philip Nemeth and junior captain, Charlie Rodilosso.”

Both Nemeth and Rodilosso picked up wins against Darien, whom Rye fell to on February 4 by a 5-2 score. A second crack at the Blue Wave yielded a much different result, with a fully healthy Garnets squad breezing past their opponent for their first and only win at Nationals on the weekend.

Rye finishes the year 9-7 after going 1-2 in Philadelphia. They fought tooth and nail for a Fairwest League title all season, spurred on by a six-game winning streak to begin the season. Eight of their nine wins came by 7-0 or 6-1 scores, as the Garnets showed all season that their team when fully healthy was extremely difficult to match up with 1-7. Best of all, the team should take another step forward in 2027:

“The boys are looking forward to next season, with all top four players returning and some young talent joining the team next season,” Huynh continued.
