The Rye Boys Tennis team picked up their first signature win of the 2026 season on Tuesday, April 14, as they defeated Horace Greeley 5-2. The Garnets bounced back from a 4-3 loss to Mamaroneck yesterday with an emphatic victory against the same Quakers team that eliminated Rye from the postseason last spring.

“This was one of our best wins with most matches being very competitive,” Head Coach Sue Dickson told MyRye.com. “I am so proud of the tenacity of the players and their willingness to step into spots that were new to them. Many of the guys are under the weather so it was great we had people step in and some return from illness to play.”

Henry Groves continued his near-perfect season with a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles. Luke Gordon came back from a set one defeat to win 3-6, 6-2 (10-4), a victory which at the time clinched the Garnets the match.

Reuinted, Lou Kim-Reuter and Filip Glitterstam won convincingly 6-1, 6-2 at top doubles. The Garnets also earned wins at third doubles (Philip Karajannis and Dylan Smailes) by a 6-2, 7-5 score and at fourth (Carter Hudspeth and Nate Bertisch), 6-0, 7-5. The second doubles pairing of Marcos Becker and Xavier Morell played in the closest match, losing 6-7 (7-9), 6-4 (10-12). Each point carried extra weight in likely the closest individual matchup for Rye this year.

The Garnets (5-1) have one day off before their third of three consecutive high-profile contests, as they host Scarsdale on Thursday, April 16. First serve is set for 4:30pm at the Rye Recreation courts.
