High-speed police chase in Rye, New York ends in a collision, resulting in two people hospitalized and a City of Rye Police vehicle totaled. The suspect, Jaime Elizandro Pacheco-Zamora, faces charges including DWI, vehicular assault, and reckless driving.
A police chase in the early hours of Sunday, May 31st, 2026, resulted in two people sent to Westchester Medical Center and a totaled City of Rye Police vehicle.
New York State Police from Troop K were pursuing a vehicle on I-684 South that then proceeded east on I-287. At around 1:59am, the suspect vehicle being pursued got off at exit 11 at the Boston Post Road in Rye near Rye Country Day School. The vehicle came off the exit ramp at a high rate of speed, hit a City of Rye Police vehicle, continued across the intersection, entering the I-95 on ramp on the opposite side of the Post Road, and continued for about 100 yards, finally coming to rest on a jersey barrier.
“The high rate of speed [of the suspect vehicle] took a good hit into one of our police cars, and that’s totaled, and both the suspect and the officer were taken to the [Westchester] Medical Center for injuries,” Rye PD Lieutenant and Patrol Commander Al Hein told MyRye.com.
The Rye PD officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released. The authorities had to extricate the driver from his vehicle. His current condition is unknown.
“We are fortunate the officer is not more seriously hurt but this is a stark reminder of the dangers that the Rye police face on a day-to-day basis,” Public Safety Commissioner Mike Kopy told MyRye.com.
New York State Police arrested the driver, 29-year-old Jaime Elizandro Pacheco-Zamora of Port Chester. Authorities said charges include DWI, vehicular assault, and reckless driving.
The Boston Post Road was closed from 2am until just before 8am on Sunday while New York State Police accident investigation assessed the scene. Rye PD and Rye FD also held the scene. The fire department did have to put down a smaller fire in the suspect’s vehicle.
