The Rye Boys Lacrosse team earned their first win in the 2026 postseason on Wednesday, May 27, as they topped Tappan Zee 17-2 in the section 1 class C quarterfinals. The Garnets jumped out to an early lead and never looked back to pull to within one victory of another sectional tournament championship game appearance.
“I feel like we are playoff ready and we understand what is at stake,” Head Coach Jeremy Guski told MyRye.com after the game. “It was nice to get everyone contributing… We are ready for what lies ahead.”
The Garnets scored the first 16 goals of the game, including a 9-0 lead at halftime and a 13-0 advantage after three quarters of play. Rye’s Athlete of the Month for May, Henry Shoemaker, led all players with a hat trick and four assists for seven points. Charlie Brady scored five times in one of his strongest games of the year. “Charlie was shooting the lights out,” Guski said of his star senior.
After building a nice cushion, the head coach began to give his bench players some playoff minutes. Malcolm Berkoff and Connor Crotty rewarded him for these decisions, with the former scoring his first career goal and the latter recording his first varsity assist.
Rye (12-5, 1-0 postseason) will host John Jay-Cross River in the semifinals on Saturday, May 30. The contest will be the final one of the year at Nugent Stadium regardless of result. Replay the win over Tappan Zee here.
