The #1 Rye Girls Lacrosse team dominated #4 John Jay-Cross River in the Class C semifinal contest on Friday, May 29, defeating the Wolves 14-1. The Garnets had everything working from the goal crease out in a classic blowout to reach the sectional championship game next Tuesday.

“Huge semifinal win for the Garnets,” Head Coach Michelle Mason told MyRye.com on Sunday. “Our defense was lights out… and freshman Dylan Ehrlich had a top performance.”

Ehrlich played likely her best game of the season, making 11 saves on 12 shots against for a sparkling .917 save percentage. She had plenty of help from her defense, who limited shot quality for most of the night and came up with eight caused turnovers and 12 ground balls. John Jay failed to score across the final three quarters of play.

On the other side of midfield, Rye’s offense scored the final 12 goals of the game, with five separate players scoring multiple goals and Mary Ebeling adding one tally and five assists. They were aided by stellar play in the draw circle.

“Our draw team continues to dominate, and the offense is running on all cyclinders with multiple players contributing points,” Mason continued.

Mia Howson, Beau Whaling, and Paige Tepedino all scored hat tricks, while Blake Sasse and Annie Toulouse added two tallies apiece. Toulouse distributed effectively as well with two assists.

Rye (14-4, 2-0 postseason) advance to the Section 1 Class C championship game, which takes place on Tuesday, June 2. The contest against #2 Pelham is set for 7:00pm at Nyack High School. The Pelicans are coming off an equally impressive semifinals win themselves, having defeated #3 Eastchester by 14 goals. Replay the win vs JJCR here.
