A helicopter made an emergency landing on Wednesday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. on the athletic field of Rye Neck High School and Middle School. According to police, the pilot was the sole occupant of the aircraft and was not injured. City of Rye Police Department, City of Rye Fire Department, Mamaroneck Police Department, and Mamaroneck Fire Department responded to the scene to ensure public safety and assess the situation.
Other local media reports had the incident in Mamaroneck but in fact part of the Rye Neck High School and Middle School campus, including half of the high school building and the entirety of the athletic fields, are fully within the City of Rye.
Local residents may have been most aware of a WABC-TV Eyewitness News helicopter above the area for about an hour after the incident, broadcasting news reports and live shots.
