The Rye Baseball team came up short in the regional championship game on Saturday, June 6, falling to Cornwall 9-0. The Garnets’ season comes to a close with the defeat against one of the top teams in New York State.

“I couldn’t be prouder for the seniors and the team,” Head Coach Michael Bruno told MyRye.com after the game. “These seniors should be proud of the joy and excitement they have brought to Rye these past two seasons.”

From first pitch, it was clear the Cornwall hitters were going to make an impact, and they did with a three-run second inning and five-run sixth. They outhit the Garnets 14-0 and did not strike out once all afternoon.

Prior to their loss Saturday, the Garnets earned their second consecutive Section 1 championship, winning at the Class AA level this year, perhaps unexpectedly. Although this loss stings, the Garnets’ season was still a considerable success. Several of their seniors will have signature big plays to look back on from the 2026 playoff run, while all of them will graduate as two-time sectional champions.

“So many great comebacks and championships,” Bruno continued. “This is an end of an era for Rye Baseball.”

Despite their promotion from Class A to AA over the offseason, the Garnets advanced only one round fewer in 2026. They have won two section trophies and one regional trophy in the past two years, setting a new standard for future teams that will be hard to match. Rye’s final record is 19-7.
