The City of Rye is planning to close a large section of Oakland Beach Avenue during the overnight hours from Monday, August 24th to Thursday, August 27, 2026. The closure will be in effect during the overnight hours from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Sewer Repair
The closure is necessary in order for the city to repair a section of the sewer main on Oakland Beach Avenue between Allendale Drive and Chamberlain Street. The city did not say if the repairs were directly related to the multi-million dollar settlement between the City and the Save the Sound (STS) environmental group in regarding to sewer infrastructure improvements.
Beyond the specific area of sewer main work, Oakland Beach Avenue will be closed to all through traffic between the Boston Post Road and Milton Road. Only local traffic will be permitted to pass. The city is urging motorists to use an alternate route to avoid delays.
