Nelly Khandji, a long-time resident of Rye, NY passed away at the age of 95. Nelly was a kind, caring, and loving woman who devoted her life to her family, and the multiple generations she helped nurture. She was the beloved wife of the late George A. Khandji, with whom she shared 46 cherished years of marriage. A devoted mother of three, grandmother of seven, and great-grandmother of six, she was the youngest of five siblings, all of whom have passed away. She immigrated to the United States at a young age with her family and within days, began her teaching career in Brooklyn, New York at PS 107. Upon moving to Rye with her family in 1982, she continued her work at the Osborn School in Rye, for more than four decades, inspiring thousands of elementary students through her patience, compassion, and love of education. She retired in 2024.

Nelly’s love extended far beyond the classroom. She had a lifelong curiosity about geography, history, and cultures, and she found great joy in cooking extravagant Mediterranean and Aleppian dishes for her family and guests. Hospitality at home and bringing people together were at the heart of who she was. Her passing leaves a profound void, as her family has lost one of its last pillars, who had held a special place in the hearts of all who knew her. Her gentle presence, generous spirit, and enduring love will be deeply missed, and her memory will live on through the many lives she touched. She is survived by her three children, Alexander, Huda, Majed and their families.
