Four Rye fall sports are still playing as the calendar flips to November. Girls and boys soccer, volleyball, and girls swimming and diving all have postseason matchups on tap this week.
Boys Soccer (Tuesday)
The Rye Boys Soccer team faces off against Our Lady of Lourdes from Section 9 in the regional semifinals on Tuesday, November 3. The contest begins at 6:15 at Byram Hills High School. The game – and all to come throughout the tournament – follows a single elimination format. Rye must win out to win the New York State championship.
Rye entered the Section 1 Class A tournament as the #1 seed after a 15-0-1 regular season. They defeated Ardsley, Byram Hills, and Tappan Zee in the first three rounds of the sectional tournament. Led by head coach Jared Small, the Garnets topped Walter Panas in overtime in the sectional championship game to reach the regional semifinals for the third year in a row.
Girls Soccer (Wednesday)
The Rye Girls Soccer team faces Mount Academy of Section 9 in the regional semifinals on Wednesday, November 4. The game begins at 4:00pm at Nyack High School. The game – and all to come throughout the tournament – follows a single elimination format. Rye must win out to win the New York State championship for the second year in a row.
Rye entered the Section 1 Class A tournament as the #1 seed after a 14-0-2 regular season. They defeated Nanuet, Sleepy Hollow, and Bronxville in their first three postseason games to reach the sectional finals. Led by head coach Rich Savage, the Garnets shut out Somers 2-0 to win their fourth straight sectional tournament title, propelling them to the regional semis on Wednesday.
Volleyball (Wednesday)
The #1 Rye Volleyball team faces #5 Ardsley in the Section 1 Class A semifinals on Wednesday, November 4. The start time for the game is still TBA, but it will occur sometime after school in the Rye High School gymnasium. The winner will advance to the sectional championship game at the Westchester County Center on Sunday, November 8.
Rye is the #1 seed after a 15-2 regular season. They swept #9 Pelham in the sectional quarterfinals, a round which they earned a bye to thanks to their impressive regular season. Ardsley is actually responsible for one of the Garnets’ two losses this season, meaning the semifinals on Wednesday is a revenge chance for head coach Geri Jones and her group. Rye is seeking their second straight – and second ever – sectional tournament championship.
Girls Swim and Dive (Friday)
The final Rye fall sports team still in action is the Rye-Blind Brook-Rye Neck Girls Swim and Dive team. RBBRN will send a handful of swimmers and divers to the Section 1 championships meet, a multi-day affair which begins on Friday, November 6. Events occur through Tuesday 11/10, with only States to follow for those who qualify.
The team finished the regular season 2-4, but some swimmers and a talented trio of divers will continue to represent Rye, Blind Brook, and Rye Neck through at least next weekend. Led by head coach Katie Konopka, RBBRN is coming off a 6th-place finish at the merged league championship meet.
