Library & Historical Society Host Discussion on Racial Inequality Thursday, 7pm
The Rye Free Reading Room and Rye Historical Society will hold a community screening and discussion of Ava DuVernay’s documentary, 13th this Thursday evening, June 25th, 2020 at 7pm. The documentary is an examination of the U.S. prison system and looks at how the country’s history of racial inequality has driven the high rate of incarceration in America.
The film is available free on Netflix and via the YouTube video below. Organizers are asking that discussion participants view the film prior to the conversation on June 25th.

This is a virtual event, and you must register in advance.
Please remember to watch the film in advance. It runs approximately 1 hour, 40 minutes in length.
(Updated) The discussion will include two facilitators:
- Kristy Leader has worked for over twenty years as a teacher, school administrator and college professor in Westchester, NYC and New Jersey with a focus on community activism and social justice. She currently works with schools and organizations as an Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist Educator.
- Nicole Hines is the Assistant Director of The Nyack Center, a community organization in Rockland County. She co-facilitates Working Together For Racial Justice Meetings, is chair of the Nyack Housing Authority Board of Directors, and leads Courageous Conversations to engage, sustain and deepen dialogue about race and racism with educators.
