3rd Dose COVID Vaccine Offered by Rye Beach Pharmacy
The Rye Beach Pharmacy is beginning to offer the third dose “booster” shot of the Coronavirus vaccine to those eligible. The CDC has recommended an additional dose of COVID-19 for a small part of the population only.
Certain people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised due to a medical condition or receipt of immunosuppressive medications or treatments, should consult with their healthcare provider to discuss the benefits of an additional dose of an mRNA vaccine, and receive the additional vaccine dose if indicated. Other fully vaccinated individuals do not need an additional vaccine dose at this time.
The clinic will be run at the Damiano Recreation Center on Midland Avenue.
Here are some of the conditions and treatments guidelines for immunocompromised patients:
- Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood;
- Received an organ transplant and are taking medications to suppress the immune system;
- Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system;
- Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome);
- Advanced or untreated HIV infection;
- Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids, cancer chemotherapy that causes severe immunosuppression, or other medications that may suppress your immune response.
The EUA amendment for additional doses is not intended for persons with chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease, for which there might be mild associated immunosuppression, nor for residents of long-term care facilities who do not otherwise meet the moderate to severe immunocompromised criteria.
The additional dose for immunocompromised people who received Johnson & Johnson has not yet been approved. The CDC recommended that you get your third dose the same brand as your first two doses. It is also recommended that you should wait at least four weeks from the time of your second dose to get your third dose

Rye Beach Pharmacy is conducting this Vaccine Clinic but is using the multi-purpose room at Damiano Recreation Center (281 Midland Ave in Rye). It will clearly be laid out in your confirmation email. This location is right down the street from Rye Beach Pharmacy and has easy parking plus handicapped spots with a ground floor entrance.
