Rye Library Investigates Systemic Racism at March Event
The Coalition for Understanding Racism through Education (CURE), in partnership with The Lorraine Hansberry Coalition (LHC) and five Westchester public libraries including the Rye Free Reading Room, will host the third annual “Five Towns: One Book,” a series of free events. CURE is a local volunteer, advocacy group in Larchmont and Mamaroneck that works to educate our about the structures and implications of systemic racism in our country’s institutions, as a critical part of dismantling it.
The series starts with a discussion on February 11th at the Croton Free Library, with Soyica Diggs Colbert author of Radical Vision, A Biography of Lorraine Hansberry followed by four events that run from March through April 15th.
The Rye Free Reading Room will host Five Towns: One Book “Hansberry: Civil Rights and Freedom Practices”, on Thursday, March 2nd at 7:00pm, in the Meeting Room. The program will feature a discussion with Director John Collins, conceiver/actor Greig Sargeant, and actress April Matthis of “Baldwin and Buckley at Cambridge”, which recently ran at The Public Theater.
