In Memory: Eduardo Antonio D’Almeida, Age 59

Obituary - Eduardo Antonio D'Almeida-2Eduardo Antonio D’Almeida, a cherished husband, father, and friend passed away on November 28th after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by loving friends and family.  Born on August 20, 1964 to Eduardo D’Almeida and Maria Lizone Birnbaum and raised in the vibrant metropolitan city of Curitiba, Brazil, Edward’s journey was one marked by love, dedication to family and a remarkable tenacity to improve his life and those around him.  Upon completing high school, he worked in the hospitality business eventually owning his own restaurant. During the economic crisis in the 1990s, Edward relocated to Rye, New York to seek opportunity and a way to support his family in Brazil. Fairly soon after arriving in 1992, he began working as a livery service driver and remained in the US, only moving back to Brazil for two years in 1996, to care for his elderly mother at the end of her life.

Edward’s life was one of commitment and service. For nearly three decades, from 1994 until his retirement in 2023, he was the epitome of reliability, professionalism, elegance and warmth as a chauffeur for the Rye Cab Company. His passengers were not just clients but became friends who deeply appreciated his friendly conversation, his calm demeanor and genuine care. His colleagues at the Rye Cab Company remember him as a man who always went the extra mile, both on the road and in his relationships. Edward proudly became the owner of Rye Cab Company in recent years.

Throughout his life, Edward faced challenges with courage and a smile that never waned. He was a beacon of optimism, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a word of encouragement. His generosity knew no bounds, and he often went out of his way to assist friends, family, and even strangers in need. He had a remarkable ability to touch the hearts of those around him and will be remembered for his kindness, courage, gentle spirit and devotion to his beloved and devoted wife, family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Morelia Castro, whom he married on May 21, 2017. Their union was a testament to love’s enduring power and the joy of finding companionship later in life. Edward was a devoted father to his son Brian D’Almeida and step father to David Castro (Angelica); a doting grandfather to his granddaughters, Ava and Aria Castro, who brought immense joy and laughter into his life. Edward also leaves behind his sister Adelaide D’Almeida and niece Liziane D‘Almeida.

A memorial service will be held at Rye Presbyterian Church on Saturday December 2, 2023 at 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to Rye Presbyterian Church.
