Varsity Baseball Survives Ardsley in Extra Innings, 3-2
The #5 Varsity Baseball team beat #12 Ardsley 3-2 in eight innings on Saturday afternoon, advancing to the Elite Eight of the Class A bracket. It was not easy, as the Panthers threatened with baserunners throughout the game, but the Garnets earned the walk-off win in the first extra inning of the day.
Lucas London led the way for Rye, pitching 3.2 strong innings, only allowing one run. He also singled in the eighth to kick off the game-winning rally, scoring the winning run on an AJ Miller walk-off single.
Charlie Margiloff and Jackson Pineault roped RBI singles in the first inning to initiate the scoring before Ardsley rallied to tie the score. Rye would not push a run across again until the eighth inning.
Shepherd Griffiths struck out five of the six batters he faced in relief to earn his sixth win of the season, along with going 1-1 at the plate. Tommy Broderick worked three walks and scored a run for the Garnets offense, which left plenty of runners on base themselves across the first seven frames.
Rye’s next game is 5:00pm on Monday, May 20, an away contest at Walter Panas. The fourth-seeded Panthers are coming off an 11-3 victory over #13 Byram Hills. The Garnets will have to try to tame a new group of Panthers in round two, this time on the road.
