Annual Plein-Air Paint-Out in September: Rye To Be Painted 70 Times
For the 17th year, Rye Arts Center is presenting the Plein-Air Paint-Out on Friday, September 15th and Saturday, September 16 with artists stations at outdoor locations around Rye. Nearly 70 paintings will be created, and events before and after the "paint-out" will celebrate the artists including a live auction of the works created.

Get ready, the artists are coming! And they’re not only painting the town, but the parks, the beaches, the landmarks, the buildings, the landscapes, the seascapes, and more. The Rye Arts Center’s Painters On Location is a biennial event in which dozens of artists from throughout the Northeast Region paint scenes of the Sound Shore in a plein-air paint-out.
First launched in 2001, Painters On Location has quickly become a local tradition, celebrating our community through art. Over the years, hundreds of paintings have been created and sold, each immortalizing beloved landmarks throughout the Sound Shore Region.
Artists will set up their easels on Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16 (locations will be posted at www.ryeartscenter.org). Some favorite locations include Rye Playland, Purchase Street, the Marshlands, local clubs, and Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck. The event is rain or shine.
On Saturday evening, enjoy a free reception at The Rye Arts Center followed by a live auction of the newly painted art works. Additional works by the participating artists will be on view starting Tuesday, September 5 in The Rye Arts Center’s gallery. These paintings will be available in a silent auction closing directly after the live auction.
A gallery tour will be held on Thursday, September 7 at 6:00 pm to give you a chance to explore the works in the silent auction, and learn about the participating artists whose easels you may wish to visit during the paint out.
Between the live and silent auctions, nearly 70 paintings will be sold. If you are a collector or interested in finding beautiful and local art to fill your home, this is a great opportunity to meet the artists and build a personal connection to their work. Proceeds will benefit The Rye Arts Center’s extensive outreach programs.
Painters On Location would not be possible without the generous support of Houlihan Lawrence. The event is also supported in part by the New York State Council on the Arts and by ArtsWestchester with funds from Westchester County government.
