He was appointed and then won two elections–all in 2025 after his predecessor George Latimer was elected to represent NY-16 in Congress. And his current term will last just three years instead of the usual four as a result of changes to New York State election law that adjusted the county executive election cycle.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins was sworn in (again) at an inauguration ceremony on January 1, 2026 at Purchase College along with County Clerk Thomas Roach and County Legislators Jennifer Puja and Anant Nambiar (representing Rye).
“In my first year as County Executive, I’ve been guided by a simple principle: leadership that listens, acts and delivers for the people of Westchester County,” said Jenkins.Â
We’ve strengthened our financial footing, invested in housing and infrastructure, expanded educational and economic opportunities, and made real progress on public safety — all while staying true to the values that unite us. This is just the beginning. Together, we will continue to build a Westchester where opportunity is real, government is responsive, and every community thrives. We’ve proven that responsible leadership works.”

Jenkins Says Dragon Coaster Will Open 2026
Jenkins took time during his inaugural comments to address last year’s county take back of Playland Park from Standard Amusements. The county parks had just a few months to scramble to open the park and it struggled to open rides including the iconic Dragon Coaster that sat still all summer.
“We know Playland is more than just a park, and it has one of our favorite neighbors that lives nearby,” said Jenkins, referencing his predecessor and now NY-16 Congressman George Latimer who lives in the neighborhood behind Playland.Â
It’s Westchester’s symbol of Westchester’s ability to preserve history, create joy, drive local tourism, and guess what? This year is going to open bigger and better. And y’all heard me say this before, but I’m telling you, you’re going to be able to meet me at the Dragon Coaster.”
At a Playland opening event in May 2025, Jenkins told the story of 45+ years ago spending time at Playland and Playland Beach with his then girlfriend, now wife, Debbie when he was a student at Fordham Prep.Â
