Hamish Fenton arrived in this world in Melbourne, Australia, on March 27 2012 and in his fourteen years managed to fill it with more joy, more love, and more heart, than most people find in a lifetime.

Hamish came to Rye, New York, in 2021 and made it entirely his own. He loved this town with a fierceness that was pure Hamish — the community, the streets, the people who became family. He was the New York Giants’ most devoted and vocal fan, and the Giants loved him right back. Their bond was inspiring.

But if the Giants had any competition for Hamish’s heart, it was watching his brothers play as Rye Garnets. Archer and Jagger were his heroes — and there was no prouder face in any stand than his little sister Lola. She was the apple of his eye and his very best friend, and made each of his days brighter just by being in it. He adored her from the very moment she was born and loved being a big brother more than anything.

Hamish fought a long and extraordinary battle with NUT Carcinoma — a rare and relentless disease that met its match in him. Hamish faced it with a courage that left everyone who witnessed it a changed person. He was, by some distance, the best athlete in the family (he would want that noted), and he brought that same competitive fire to everything he did. Away from the field, he was happiest at the ocean — drawn to it the way some people simply are — and could spend hours lost in the world of Lego, building with a focus and creativity that was entirely his own. But what people will remember most is not the fight — it is the light. Hamish was passionate, joyful, and endlessly kind. He was the kind of person everyone wanted to be near, and the kind of person the world simply does not make enough of.

He is survived by his parents, Cassie and Mark (Gus) Fenton; his siblings Archer, Jagger, and Lola; his beloved dogs Rocket and Tyson; his grandparents Phil and Rhonda Fenton and Jackie and Paul Martin; his aunts and uncles Elli and Nathan Langdon, Matthew Fenton and Karen Leng, Nicola Ross, Nathan and Clare Fenton, and Alex Fenton; his cousins Mia, George and Betty, Mira, Sienna and Holly, Jarvis, Elsie and Ari; and the remarkable friends in Rye and Australia who became family in every sense of the word.

Hamish’s greatest wish was to keep making a difference — and he will. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to support Dr. Ortiz’s research into NUT carcinoma and rare pediatric cancers. This is how Hamish’s fight continues, and how he will go on changing the world he loved so much.

For our family and friends in Australia you can watch on Monday the 8th of June at 7am
