The Rye Football Team’s 15-game winning streak dating back to last season came to an end on Thursday, September 10, as the Garnets lost to Clarkstown South 35-28. The teams traded scores all night and entered the fourth quarter tied, but the Vikings punched across the final score to secure a well-fought home victory.

“We made too many mistakes with missed tackles and penalties,” head coach Dino Garr told MyRye.com after the defeat. “We have to regroup and tie up all our loose ends on offense, defense, penalties, and tackling. We missed too many tackles.”

Rye’s defense, which held opponents to just 16.6 points per game in 2025, fell victim to a physical Clarkstown South offense, which forced missed tackles and defensive penalties. Landon van Etten led the Vikings’ attack with four touchdowns, including a 34-yard rushing score that served as the game-winner.

Rye’s play of the game came with a 7-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Charlie Brady connected with Luke Denvir for a 28-yard touchdown catch, and a successful extra point tied the score for the time being.

Despite the loss, the Garnets still proved they can hang with arguably the best opponent in the league on their home field. “The players are resilient,” Garr said. “It was a good effort from the players, but we have to put in the effort to fix what we need to.”

Rye (1-1) gets more than a week off before their next contest against another strong opponent in Eastchester. Kickoff against the Eagles is scheduled for 7:00pm on Friday, September 18, at Nugent Stadium. Watch it here. Replay the recent defeat here.
