Families, friends, and the community will “take the plunge” into freezing waters at Playland Beach to raise money and show support for Special Olympics New York athletes this Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 11:30am.
Special Olympics New York’s “Westchester Polar Plunge” will be using Playland Beach for the first time since 2011. The event was cancelled in 2012 due to Hurricane Sandy and then took turns at Glen Island and Westchester Country Club Beach Club.
Over 1,000+ plungers from all over Westchester County, including local law enforcement, firefighters, families, local high school groups and other participants. Participating students will receive 10 hours of community service. A DJ will be on-site to energize the crowd with upbeat tunes, while the Bona Bona F&B truck and Playland’s pop-up shop will also be available to keep participants (and supporters) warm with coffee and hot chocolate post-plunge.
The Polar Plunge is one of the most popular, profitable, and exciting fundraisers for the Special Olympics New York. Participants raise money by asking friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances for donations that help to provide year-round sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities in communities across the state.
