The Rye PD is reporting a black bear sighting in Rye Friday morning.
The bear was seen by Hillside Rd @ Cope Circle at 6am Friday morning, June 12, 2020. Hillside & Cope is in the vicinity of Rye Country Day, and the I-287 – I-95 interchange. See the map below.
Rye PD is asking residents “do not approach if seen- if you encounter stay calm-do not run-do not make eye contact- slowly move away- if you can’t escape then make lots of noise clapping yelling waving arms etc to scare off. Remove outside food sources-bird feeders/pet food/garbage cans-black bear attacks are extremely rare- if it does attack,fight back!”
