The road to a championship for the Rye Women’s Varsity Lacrosse team got a little bit shorter, as the Garnets comfortably handled the Henry Hudson Sailors 19-6 to advance to the semi-finals. Rye entered the tournament as the two seed in the class C and flew right past their quarterfinal matchup, as the game ended with a running clock.

Ten different players contributed at least one point. Head Coach Michelle Mason voiced praise for her entire roster, saying “our defense [made] big stops early, and our goalies [denied] opportunities.” Lily Whaling was one of those players, “setting the tone early with wins on the draw” and being one of the ten to make an appearance on the scorecard.

This is Rye’s 14th win on the year in total, to just three defeats. They will look to improve to 15-3 and get one step closer to championing the league on Monday night in a game against John Jay Cross River. The Garnets will host that contest at 5:15pm on May 20.
