The head of the Rye City School District is headed to Darien, Connecticut to head its school system.
Superintendent Eric Byrne, who will retire from Rye on June 30, 2025, will not have a single day to rest. On Tuesday, May 13, the Darien Board of Education accepted his appointment as the interim superintendent of schools, replacing the retiring Alan Addley. Byrne will start his new role on July 1, 2025.
“We are thrilled not only to be working with him, but also that he would step up into this role,” said Jill McCammon, chair of the Darien Board of Education at its May 13 meeting. “He will be starting in July, and we are super excited that we get the opportunity to work with him.”
“Thank you very much to the board for this opportunity and your confidence,” Byrne told the meeting. “I look forward to collaborating with all of you in service of the children and families of Darien.”
Back in October, Byrne told MyRye.com he thought he would be kayaking on July 1 – after leaving Rye schools. Looks like that weekday kayaking activity might have to wait a bit longer.
