Rye Varsity Track star Erin Ball was chosen by her classmates as the Rye City Lions Club 27th Annual Scholar Athlete of the Year. Ball was chosen by student vote among the nine athletes of the month announced over the course of this academic year. Rye Lion Tommy Maloney made the announcement at an awards luncheon on Thursday at The Osborn senior living campus.
“Erin is probably one of the hardest workers that we have, but it’s not because of her amazing talent or all the ability that she can do, but it’s mainly because of how hard she works at every practice,” said Rye Varsity Track Coach Kevin Murphy at the luncheon. She’s always putting 100% of her effort, really giving her best every time she’s on the track.”

- Kaden Zion, Boys Soccer (September 2024): The senior leading scorer led Rye Boys Soccer to a 15-4-1 record, a sectional championship, and a top ten in-state ranking at their peak. He scored five goals in the sectional tournament, including a hat trick in the championship game and game-winners over Pelham and Byram Hills. The striker is heading to Washington and Lee next fall to continue his athletic and academic career.

- Caroline Doyle, Field Hockey (October 2024): The star multi-sport athlete was one of only three seniors on the Rye Field Hockey team. She was a very consistent source of offense all year and helped a young team to a 13-7 record and sectional semifinals berth. She is headed to Duke next autumn to play lacrosse.
- [Did not attend.] Bowyn Brown, Girls Soccer (November 2024): The senior was one of many impact contributors for the high-powered Rye Girls Soccer team. She helped the Garnets to a remarkable 20-2-1 record in 23 games. The center midfielder played a key two-way role for a team that came within two wins of a state championship after winning their region via two consecutive shutouts.

- Jake Kessner, Boys Basketball (December 2024): After helping Rye Football to a 10-1 record, Kessner took the reins of the Boys Basketball team. He reached 1,000 career points on the hardwood in a midseason win against Somers. The four-year starter led Rye in points in his senior year and helped the Garnets to a surprise appearance in the sectional championship game under first-year Head Coach Tommy Proudian.

- Erin Ball, Winter Track (January 2025): As a track athlete, Ball shined in all three seasons. The senior qualified for nationals in the winter thanks to a 6’ 6” high jump, the 6th best mark in New York State in 2025. She won a league championship in that event and long jump, and continued her dominance in the spring season as well.

- Drew Dolan, Ice Hockey (February 2025): The senior winger helped the Rye Hockey team to a sectional championship, scoring twice in the clinching victory over Pelham. Dolan was a very impactful scorer for the 16-6-1 Garnets, but also excelled in areas of the game that do not show up in a box score, earning heavy praise from Head Coach Pete Thomas.

- Archer Fenton, Boys Rugby (March 2025): Another multi-sport athlete, Fenton helped the Rye Boys Rugby team to a Founders Cup, awarded to the champions of Tier 2. Fenton was key on both offense and defense throughout the season and month of March, including a 51-7 win over #13 Staples on 3/29. He is off to Fairfield next fall to continue his rugby career.

- Tucker Hess, Boys Lacrosse (April 2025): The senior and Villanova commit was Rye Boys Lacrosse’s most dangerous playmaker throughout the 2025 season. He broke the modern-day school record with 9 assists in one game against Mountain Lakes in an April win. Hess helped Rye to an undefeated regular season and sectional championship game appearance.

- Mary Sack, Girls Lacrosse (May 2025): The senior was a crucial piece on the Rye Girls Lacrosse team’s attack day in and day out. She netted her 100th career goal on May 16 en route to a win over Suffern. The versatile star continued to score at a torrent pace throughout the spring, all the way through the sectional championship game.
