The Rye Baseball team fell short in the New York State semifinal on Friday, June 13, losing 7-2 to Pittsford-Mendon. Rye left seven runners in scoring position in the defeat, which marks the end of an incredible 2025 season.
Vinny Sculti and Nolan Hutson picked up RBIs for the Garnets, both of which came in the top of the fifth inning. Rye cut a 5-0 deficit to 5-2, but could not get any closer in the final two frames. The Vikings impressed with twelve hits off of Rye pitching, and the Garnets uncharacteristically did not help themselves with three errors.
Rye concludes the spring a remarkable 23-5, winning a league championship, sectional championship, and regional championship. They progressed to the state semifinals for the first time since 2014, and improved ten wins from their 13-8 mark in 2024.
The Garnets are set to lose 16 wins on the mound with Peter Davies and Jack Sheridan graduating, and two key hitters – first basemen Charlie Rupp and Sculti, the designated hitter, have also wrapped up their high school careers. The offense will still be elite next year, and that gives Rye a real chance to make noise once again, although another year of playing games in June is a lot to ask. For now, after the disappointment settles, they can relish in tying the Girls Soccer Team as Rye Athletics’ longest team run in 2024-25 – both clubs came within two wins of a state title.
