The #2 Rye Baseball team defeated #1 Walter Panas 8-1 on Sunday morning (June 1) in the first game of the championship round. The victory sets up a winner-take-all game today at 4:00pm at SUNY Purchase College.

Rye scored all eight of its runs in the fifth and seventh innings with two huge rallies. All eight runs came with two outs. Harry Ellis went 2-4 with a 2-run double and an RBI single. Luke Ontaneda had the first run-scoring hit and also crossed home twice on his own. Lucas London and Vinny Sculti both had extremely productive days at the plate to lift the Garnets.

Jack Sheridan shined in a huge bounce back start, throwing 4.2 innings of shutout baseball with six punchouts for the win. Clayton McCarthy finished the job to earn the seven-out save.

Rye (21-4) gets a few hours off before first pitch against the same opponent at the same location at 4:00pm today, Sunday 6/1. Whoever wins that game is the Section 1 Class A champion. Watch it here. Watch the morning win here (note: a SportsEngine account is required to view both).
